It's normal for a maturing product to have name changes, but Sharepoint is now a full grown, dependable application. So, please stop re-branding it.
Here are the 2 official sources of the news:
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2009/Apr09/04-15Office2010.mspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2009/04/14/microsoft-sharepoint-14-is-now-microsoft-sharepoint-2010.aspx
As a personal note, I wish they had more to tell us about the new product than just a name change.
Here is extract from SharePointBuzz.com, about the possible features that Sharepoint 2010 might have:
"SharePoint 14 might have:
- SharePoint Web Parts for FAST ESP but better integration and bigger
- The server software will be announced as 64 bit only
- Silverlight Media web parts
- Better accessibility and cleaner code generation
- Backup/Restore/Rollback and Snapshot backups with virtual load balancing
- Near automated build and replace
- Claims-based authentication
- Possible inclusion of InfoPath style web-based editor - since Office 14 is allowing for some applications to be web-based with limited functionality. Why not integrate some of those into SharePoint vNext
- SQL tables-like behaviour for SharePoint lists
- Custom filters won't be necessary to index and extract metadata from ODF and PDF files
- jQuery and SharePoint vNext "
- Integration with Micrsoft's CRM and ERP products (not through BDC)
- Integration with BizTalk
- URL ReWriting features
- Audit for more then documents, like audit of site administration and customization.
- Records management that respects the industry standards a little bit better.
